Stage Management
There is more to being in the Moulton Drama group than acting on the stage. Your interests may lie backstage.
A stage manager is the person who has overall responsibility for backstage activities and the smooth execution of a production.
The Stage Manager has to work closely with the director, the set designer and lighting designer to ensure that the initial concept for the play is translated into reality on the stage.
The stage manager organises a team to build the set – usually on a number of Saturdays leading up to the play.
During play week he/she is responsible for checking with the set, lights, sound and special effects people for any problems. Liaising with props and costume and the actors to ensure that everything is running smoothly.
During the play he/she oversees prompt entrances by actors.
During the interval he is busy organising things for the next act. Once the the performance is over, the hall has to be cleared and left tidy for other users.
